The shirt itself is great. It arrived expeditiously and with it came a flood of memories of days and nights spent in Harvard Square before Mass Ave. became a concrete canyon and when working people were able to live there in rent-controlled apartments. Where Passim's was owned and operated by Bob and Ray Anne Donlin who kept folk music alive. Where Cherry Jones trod the boards at the Loeb Drama Center and Robert Brustein attracted the best available talent and put on the best plays regional theater had to offer. Where buskers provided the soundtrack to your days and nights, and if you were very lucky, where you might hear a Tracy Chapman before she became famous. Where you had more bookstores in that square mile than anywhere in the world—except London, where Penguin Books occupies an entire square mile by itself. Where the locals used to watch Red Sox games, seated on the sidewalk outside the window of Cardullo's where there was a color TV tuned to WSBK. And where the Wursthaus, where I took my wife on our second date, served up wonderful German fare. That's all gone now, save for a few remnants, but the memories remain for those old enough to have lived in those times but still young enough to be able to recall them. Thanks for loosing the flood—I'll be wading in it happily every time I don the shirt....
