Russell’s Restaurant on Boston Road in Springfield was one of those classic landmarks that felt like it had always been there—an old-school car-hop spot that opened in 1952 and later became a beloved sit-down “relic of the past” for generations in the Pine Point/Sixteen Acres area. People still remember the Royal Burger and the house favorite fried-egg sandwich known as “The Russell’s Special,” along with that friendly chef-hat sign out front that screamed mid-century roadside Americana. After more than 50 years in business, Russell’s closed in April 2005, and locals have been nostalgic about it ever since.
