The Rhode Island Auditorium, located at 1111 North Main Street in Providence, was a prominent indoor arena that opened on February 18, 1926. With a seating capacity of 5,300, it served as the home for the Providence Reds ice hockey team until 1972 and hosted the NBA's Providence Steamrollers from 1946 to 1949. Beyond sports, the venue featured a variety of events, including concerts by notable artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Jimi Hendrix. After the Reds moved to the Providence Civic Center, the auditorium continued to function as a tennis venue before being demolished in 1989. Today, the site is occupied by parking facilities for The Miriam Hospital, with a plaque commemorating the historic arena.
